When gold scratches however a tiny bit of gold is lost with the scratch, whilst with platinum the metal is moved when bumped so it will appear like a scratch but it is the metal that has been every so slightly displaced on the ring.  Another factor is that platinum will always maintain its white colour while18 ct white gold can fade over time and require rhodium plating to restore that white lustre.  Platinum is a heavier metal so if you are wanting a slightly weightier ring than platinum is also a good option.
